Aspen Peak Shepherd Puppies

So you’re thinking of getting a German Shepherd puppy. That’s fantastic.  You are in for a treat – and a challenge. German Shepherd dogs are absolutely the best dog there is, but getting to the dog means getting past the puppy phase. These puppies are adorable, fun, and exciting to have, but they come with a warning. They are energetic, single-minded, and mischeivous, which ALL puppies are. But the German Shepherd puppy is that to the extreme. Not everyone is suited to own a German Shepherd dog.  If you cannot make it past the puppy phase, you are not worthy of the dog.  Aspen Peak Shepherds Kennel will be very diligent in questioning anyone interested in one of our puppies to determine whether they will be able to make it past the puppy phase.

German Shepherd dogs, with the right training, will be completely different animals from what they are as puppies. The trick is training and patience.  The reward is extremely worth it in the end.  And there are ways of getting through the puppy phase while keeping your sanity intact.

What to expect in a German Shepherd Puppy

Where do I begin? First of all, German Shepherd puppies, like all puppies, will melt your heart instantly. But you must remember that any puppy remains that cute, darling fluff of fur for only a short while. You must have decided that you want the adult dog before you decide on wanting a puppy. By far, a German Shepherd dog is far more desirable than the puppy.  However, getting a puppy allows you to have the dog in its formative months and these are crucial in the dog’s final development. With that said, a puppy is a commitment. That commitment, if given, will pay you back in multiples. But there is work to do in raising a German Shepherd puppy. It’s fun times, yes, but the fact that you must dedicate yourself to training and behavior modification takes time, effort, and patience. The good news is that we will provide you the tools to get through the puppy stage and raise an extremely loyal, calm, and well-adjusted German Shepherd dog. You will not regret your decision if you have done your part in raising your puppy right.

How to Get a Puppy from Aspen Peak Shepherds

Getting a puppy is a big deal and looking for the right one can be a little daunting. We would like to make it as pleasant an experience as possible. Communications is key in that respect, and we encourage you to contact us with any questions you have about the process.

We are committed to producing the best German Shepherd puppies out there. That begins with picking the right parents. Only the best examples of any breed should be bred and we searched for our parents with a discerning eye and the help of other experienced, reputable breeders. We chose only those dogs from long champion lines, which have the validation of being structurally sound dogs. We are also working to keep a true moderate angulation to our dogs, which will not only provide a structurally correct German Shepherd Dog, but also ensure that our dogs’ offspring will have more work endurance and agility than those dogs from breeders who are bastardizing the breed standard by producing dogs with extreme hindquarter angulation. While these dogs have a more “glamorous” pose, they are losing their ability to move in the correct manner that a German Shepherd should and experiencing mobility issues later in life. German Shepherd Dogs that have a moderate angulation to their hindquarters will fare better with movement in their senior years.

To get a puppy from Aspen Peak Shepherds, we do NOT require a deposit to get on a waiting list, which we call a Litter Update List. However, once you wish to reserve a puppy from a litter, we require a $200 non-refundable deposit to put your name on the puppy you have chosen.*

Everyone on our Litter Update List will be able to select from our available puppies. Although you may be low on the list, it is possible that you will still get a puppy because we choose the best families for our puppies. We do not assign puppies on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please be aware that we will NEVER sell our puppies to brokers. If you are a broker, do not even inquire. We vet people on our Litter Update List to ensure that our puppies go to their forever homes directly from us. Every person who wants a puppy from Aspen Peak Shepherds MUST fill out an application.

The cost of our puppies is dependent upon quality, lineage, and conformation to standards. However, our puppies begin at $1500, and our contract requires proof of spay or neuter by a licensed veterinarian before the puppy reaches 18 months old.  Understand that our puppies come from highly vetted parents from champion lines. Our parents have been DNA tested through Optimal Selection (Wisdom Health) to ensure that none of our puppies will have any of the 200+ canine genetic diseases that are screened for. Our pups will go home at a minimum of 8-10 weeks, microchipped, and with all age-appropriate vaccinations from a vet. We do not self-vaccinate, as many breeders do. Our pups are examined by a licensed veterinarian at each vaccination appointment. Pups will be dewormed upon their last veterinary appointment, closest to going home. New owners will receive limited registration for their puppy. Limited registration means NOT FOR BREEDING.

At this time, we will only sell puppies as pets. Please do not request a puppy for breeding.

Getting on our Litter Update List

If you wish to get on our Litter Update List, you will have to fill out an Application. Very few breeders require this, but we are concerned about where our puppies go after they leave us. German Shepherd puppies are very energetic, sturdy, and single-minded creatures, so we will weed out anyone who does not have the capacity to take charge or the time to commit to training a new puppy. Our priority is finding our puppies the best family to go to, not providing puppies to just anyone who wants one. By screening buyers appropriately, we ensure that our puppies will go to a family that will provide a home for their lifetime. The Application will help us understand a little bit about the lifestyle and personality of each interested buyer and decide if the buyer is suited for a German Shepherd Dog.

Any application that has been rejected will come with an explanation.
